NEED ASSESSMENT
The role of the surgeon in the management of surgical conditions has dramatically changed in the last decade. New knowledge in the etiology, management, complications and prognosis has change how we treat common conditions at the community and tertiary care centers levels. As a result, the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Surgeons is committed to provide education at both levels. In addition, the Chapter’s membership consists of general surgeons, as well as, members of several subspecialties. Therefore, we developed a comprehensive program that provides all members important information for their surgical practices. The mission of the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Surgeons is to promote excellence in the surgical care in the island. Thus, the meeting provides the perfect venue to fulfill our mission in a broader audience.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activity, the participant should be able to:
- Identify and treat clinical and surgical needs of trauma patients.
- Understand the criteria for surgical therapy of different conditions such as necrotizing pancreatitis, parathyroid disease and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.
- Describe new developments in pediatric facial reconstruction.
- Identify new anesthesia techniques.
- Update their knowledge in palliative care, molecular markers and colon cancer.
- Describe new concepts that change the surgical management of patients with prostate enlargement.
- Provide education in prevention of physician burnout and strategies to cope with stressful situations.
