NEEDS ASSESSMENT

In order to keep up with this modern time and the recent global events, the evolution of the surgeon’s role in the management of patients with medical and surgical conditions has become necessary.  New technologies to improve the diagnosis, management and treatment of these conditions and their complications have been developed. The knowledge regarding diagnosis, management and treatment has improved or changed. As part of our mission as the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American College of Surgeons we are committed to provide education to our surgical community to help them maintain an adequate competency. With that in mind, the program for the 2025 Scientific Meeting is an ambitious and comprehensive program tailored to cover a diverse range of topics to fulfill our community’s educational needs. Thru this meeting, our Chapter will be able to achieve one of our missions: Of being surgical educators within our community.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Advocacy: Improve overall surgeon well-being developing new strategies that support residents and maintain a productive training and learning environment.
  • The learners will be exposed to ideas as to how to improve our practices through technology-based education.
  • Improved the exposure of the surgical practice to artificial intelligence. 
  • Understand the importance of a lifelong approach to physical, mental, and emotional wellness for personal and professional well-being.
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery/Hernias: The learners will learn new techniques and strategies on laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, particularly in the obese population.
  • Improve the decision-making process in the management of gynecological emergencies seen from a general surgeon’s point of view.
  • Trauma- learn about new emerging topics in the field of critical care.
  • Understand the management of obesity from different point of views-medical and surgical.
  • Learn about the management of inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Understand new aspects about the surgical management of cardiothoracic conditions including valve disease and lung cancer.
  • Enhance their knowledge of pediatric surgery
  • Describe new concepts that change the surgical management of patients in urologic, ENT, cardiothoracic patients.
  • Adapt concepts and quality measures in support of research advancements.
  • Enhance the quality of patient care.
